We've been making this trip to the Beach Club since Jake was even diagnosed, in 2004. And before! And every single trip, we say, we should ferry across from Fort Morgan to Dauphin Island. And every single time, something comes up or we just say, "Oh, maybe next time". Or, well, honestly, Todd usually convinces himself that it is quicker to just hit the highway.
Well, it might be quicker, but it is nowhere near as fun!!
The girls AND I were sorta trippin' out when we DROVE onto a boat!!
ANd then to think we were just sitting there in our CRANKED car, as to keep warm, while the ferry hauled our butts across to the other side of Alabama in about 30 minutes, right across Mobile Bay.
And as I ferried, I replied to texts...
Got inspiration for holiday decorations...
Found great sayings that reminded me of our own little adventure of the week...
Looked at cool paintings on instagram....
And found art that I thought was worth screenshotting and using as my own post (I gave her credit!)...
There was more inspiration to be had....
and all the while, I was being ferried closer to home. Without a doubt it is the way to come home. (TODD!!)
Of course, I do realize that going this way is really convenient if you are heading over to my other favorite place, Ocean Springs, MS.
We cruised on in there to have a bite to eat at a local dive. And then we mosied (word? spelling?) on up to Baton Rouge to drop off Mary Allison.
What Todd can do in 5 1/2 hours, it took us 11 hours.... there... AND... back!! Yep, we were taking the scenic route. And I am not sure I'd do it different next time. I like to check it ALL out.
It's the way of the EXPLOREr!!

Awesome little trip! It's all about making memories :)
Jeff and I are the same way. If we go one way we come back another lol. We have friends and Jeff's mom that lives not far from us but we always go one way there and loop around and come back the other way. It is just better to see a different view lol. These past few weeks I wasn't able to drive I have gotten lots of gawking done. I am usually driving and watching the road. I have seen all kinds of old stuff that is new to me.
I think the ferry would be cool and scary. I would probably have to have extra anxiety meds to tackle that one lol
How fun!! What a great memory making adventure!!
We have a ferry near here, but I haven't been on it since I was a kid.
Fun times - yup, I think Explore is very fitting!
They let you keep the engine running during the transport?? That would have NEVER happened on the Ferry we travel into Galveston Island. They make sure ENGINES should be cut off. Yall was smart to stay inside the car bc It's cold outside and the seagulls (which was a ton of them) hop aboard. Pls don't have nno food in your hands they will attack you!!!
so glad you got to go on the ferry. loved your giving the two time difference between you and todd but you were one R&R after all. Keep on blogging - we love it. Becky
